Dazzling Dragonflies

D

We have a small water feature/pond in our yard and I started seeing what looked like water spiders swimming around in the water. I tried researching to find out what kind of spider that would live and breathe in water. Nothing came up in my research to truly confirm what these interesting creatures were.

Well come to find out, long story short, they are immature dragonflies (nymphs) in the water. I believe we have had three (3) dragonflies emerge from our water feature/pond that I have had the pleasure of knowing so far. We named them Oscar (after the famous writer, Oscar Wilde), DeLorean (Lorean for short) and Marty McDragonfly (after the movie, Back to the Future). Oscar and Lorean for some reason were not able to take flight. It appeared that their wings did not fully develop. I was honored to keep those two dragonflies safe and allowed them to enjoy their best dragonfly life as much as possible. I felt compelled to help them fly, to let them feel the wind beneath their wings. I took Oscar and Lorean on tours of our yard, basked in the sunlight, and played in the flowers. Marty was able to take flight and that was the most magical moment ever. It was absolutely exhilarating.

From my observation so far, it appears to be quite an amazing adventure for them to emerge and fully fly. I hope I can continue to be an eye witness of these dazzling dragonflies. I am so blessed that they chose our yard to share in their life cycle process.

After reading all the articles and facts about them, here is a cool website that I found that I enjoyed gleaming from dragonfly-site.com.

I hope you discover amazing moments in nature that bless your heart like these dragonflies have touched mine. This picture is a precious moment to me. Delorean appeared to be showing off for the camera after a fun flight around the yard in my hand. I love how she was so delicate to rest her front arm on one of the purslane flower leaves.

And, I love be reminded of beautiful quotes from Oscar Wilde…

“To live is the rarest in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”
Oscar Wilde

“Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead.”
Oscar Wilde
