Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day! We like to celebrate our fox squirrel family every day. Although, January 21st is an extra special day of recognition for our squirrels.
Our Sweet Sammie came in for a dinner treat of pecans and walnuts. I noticed her from the window so I decided to go outside and hang out with her. I was surprised to hear she was in her communication mode with what I consider the sound of growling. She makes this noise when a predator is in the midst. I walked slowly around the yard to see if I could find the predator and discovered she was growling at a dog roaming around.
She ran up to my feet and I was relieved she was starting to calm down. I think she knew I would defend and protect her while I was outside. I waited a few moments until she was back to her sweet normal self. I reached down to feed her a pecan treat and wished her a Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day.
After she was done, she ran up one of our trees for a few berries still dangling from the tree.
I truly cherish the moments with Sammie. She is pretty spectacular and we are so blessed to know her.
This picture of Sammie was taken last weekend. She looks so lovely with her winter coat of hair.
